Potsdam Propeller Test Case

The Potsdam Propeller Test Case (PPTC) is a marine propeller that was extensively measured by SVA Potsdam. Its geometry is available online in various formats such as .igs, .step and .pff. This propeller is widely used for benchmarking purposes, as experimental results, CFD reference data and geometric data are all accessible here.

The imported geometry of the original PPTC is included in the sample file under the scope import_PPTC.

Parametric Model Overview

This sample demonstrates how a fully parametric version of the Potsdam Propeller Test Case (PPTC) can be modeled using the Advanced Propeller Workflow.

Potsdam Propeller Test Case PPTC

The main goal of this sample is to provide a parametric version of the PPTC blade that can be easily modified and extended.
The model is designed to be both robust and flexible. Although the baseline design does not match the original geometry exactly, the deviation is minor and acceptable for demonstration and validation.

Comparison Between Original and Parametrized Geometry

The surface comparison below visualizes the distance in millimeters between the original and the parametrized blade geometries.
The largest deviations are observed near the blade tip region.

Error Metrics:

  • Max Error: 0.89304178 mm0.7144% of radius
  • Mean Error: 0.24745798 mm0.1980% of radius
