Propeller with Hub Vortex Fins

This sample illustrates how a fully-parametric propeller with hub vortex fins (HVF) can be modeled using the Advanced Propeller Workflow.

Load Model

Propeller with HVF

The hub vortex fins get their name from their design, which is focused on vortex loss reduction. These fins are an energy-saving device that helps manage the vortex flow around the hub. The design of the fins is optimized to reduce drag and turbulence. The NOB (Number of Blades) is equal to the number of blades of the propeller.

The hub vortex fins design procedure is similar to that of a small propeller.

Additionally, the NACA 66 a = 0.8 mod profile is used for both the propeller and the hub vortex fins.

Below, the Radial Distributions of the baseline design for this propeller (continuous lines) and hub vortex fins (dashed lines) are shown.
