Rim-Driven Thruster
This sample illustrates how a fully-parametric rim-driven thruster can be modeled using the Advanced Propeller Workflow.
Load Model
The rim-driven thruster gets its name from its design, where the electric motor is integrated into the outer rim of the propeller, eliminating the need for a central shaft. This allows for a more compact and efficient structure. The blade geometry is optimized with the maximum chord at the tip and the minimum chord at the root. Its design enables quiet operation by reducing noise and vibration.
The thruster also incorporates a NACA 4-digit profile for the duct.
Below, the Radial Distributions of the baseline design for this propeller type are shown.
